Charlie Farley – It Ain’t Home Lyrics

Chorus
Home ain’t found
In a pile o’ gold
So I quit chasin’ rainbows.
If it ain’t the small town
With the dirt road to take me on,

Then take me far away
From the fast life and city lights.
I need a moonlit night
On a Saturday night
Like myself oh, I make wrong
But I won’t be gone long (gone)
Cuz it ain’t home.

Verse 1
East to the West coast ?
Are some o’ the most beautiful places
You can go.
So Florida mangoes, Potatoes in Idaho,
Even ski slopes when it was below zero.
I rode the Polar Express with my kids
In the railroad.
Got drunk in Myrtle Beach
Now I have me a heat stroke. (haha)
Went back to Shiro,
Made a couple of mixtapes
Smoke some trees, shot the breeze,
And was on my way.

Sixteen hours later,
Straight drove all through the night.
Just do, I’d rather sleep all day
At least I’mma sleep all right.
They call me “Turnaround Joe”
I don’t like bein’ gone
I always turn around,
Cuz I know that…

Chorus
Home ain’t found
In a pile o’ gold
So I quit chasin’ rainbows.
If it ain’t the small town
With the dirt road to take me on,

Then take me far away
From the fast life and city lights.
I need a moonlit night
On a Saturday night
Like myself oh, I make wrong
But I won’t be gone long (gone)
Cuz it ain’t home.

Verse 2
You can say, “There’s more to do and see”
Taller trees, and tastier collard greens.
And I ain’t gonna say that you’re wrong
I’ll only say that it ain’t home.
You can tell me
That I can make twice the dough.
You’re right, I suppose,
But I can’t sell a soul
That I don’t know. (What’ya mean?)
Man, it just ain’t home. (Okay, I respect that)

Look, I know there’s prettier places,
Friendlier faces, more money to be made
If I just moved away, but I can’t. (why?)
It’s got all o’ me (yeah)
I’ll always be (what?)
Country, (yeah?) ,with no apologies.

Chorus
Home ain’t found
In a pile o’ gold
So I quit chasin’ rainbows.
If it ain’t the small town
With the dirt road to take me on,

Then take me far away
From the fast life and city lights.
I need a moonlit night
On a Saturday night
Like myself oh, I make wrong
But I won’t be gone long (gone)
Cuz it ain’t home.
(Ain’t home, ain’t home, ain’t home)

Song Meaning & Review

This song really said, “Yeah, city life is nice. But have you ever been to the countryside?”

I mean, I know we all have different preferences in life. You might like it better in the city and someone else may like it better in the countryside. As for the song, it clearly conveys how much the artist would miss the countryside every time he’d leave.

Like, yes, he finds the places in the city real pretty with lots of things to try and do, lots of other places to go to. He’s even aware that there’s more money to make in the city. But no matter how many things you can do in the city, no matter how many times you go to the city, home will always be home.

“There’s no place like home”, I’ve always heard. When he’s home, he’d get to take his kids to the Polar Express, go to Shiro, Texas and mix a few drinks with old friends in the hometown, drive all night and sleep well in the early morning. And I’m sure that all this are irreplaceable no matter how much money you can make somewhere else or whatever else you could do outside your hometown.
