Chris Ruediger – When You Don’t Lyrics

Verse
There’s a one way flight headin’ westbound
Couple seats left haven’t booked
Yet I know you’re growin’ up
Just like you should girl

There’s a one room studio apartment
Practically got your name on it
Can’t wait to visit
And see what I’m missin’

Pre-Chorus
Gotta smile and play it off cool
Cuz I know how much it means to you

Chorus
My heart’s gonna break when you’re runnin’ down the runway
It ain’t the same when you’re callin’ on your lunch break
A couple thousand miles between us seems easier than letting go
We’ll play this game and say it’s gonna work out
And this flame ain’t never gonna burn out
Stayin’ or leavin’ everything in between comes easy when you know
But what about when you don’t?

Verse
I’d be jealous of the California sunset
But I don’t mind stayin’ up
Talkin’ about your new friends
Actually someday I’ll meet em’

Guarantee it gonna fit right
Sun dress, beach hair, blue eyes
And that westcoast smile
You’re one in a million

We’re fallin’ from the beginning

What about when you don’t?

Bridge
Yeah I wish she was a no brainer
But this goodbye comin’ now
Or later

Chorus
My heart’s gonna break when you’re runnin’ down the runway
It ain’t the same when you’re callin’ on your lunch break
A thousand miles between us seems easier than letting go
We’ll play this game and say it’s gonna work out
And this flame ain’t never gonna burn out
Stayin’ or leavin’ everything in between comes easy when you know
But what about when you don’t? (What about when you, what about when you don’t)
What about when you don’t? (Stayin’ or leavin’ everything in between comes easy when you know)
What about when you don’t?
What about when you don’t? (What about when you, what about when you don’t)
What about when you don’t?
What about when you don’t?

Song Meaning & Review

Chris Ruediger Comes Back All Cheesy

Boston home-grown country folk singer Chris Ruediger recently came back with another beloved hit with the title “When You Don’t.” Ruediger is one of the most awaited up and coming singer-songwriters when it comes to country music.

With musical influences from other popular country artists like Tim McGraw, Chris fell hard with the genre too. He played musical instruments at such a young age so he was able to utilize his skills and put it into his country style.

When You Don’t—the next country hit

Even though Chris Ruediger rose into popularity during the unfortunate time of Covid-19, it was enough for him to make a name. He was already touring with influential musicians before the pandemic hit.

All his activities were halted in accordance to health and safety measures. Regardless, Chris continued making a way to boost his fame.

He collaborated with other artists, especially those who were near his hometown. He gained massive following and got into several projects.

Finally, by 2021 he was able to release his debut EP. And just less than a week ago, we are here hearing his new single “When You Don’t.”

“When You Don’t” starts strong with Ruediger’s guitar skills. His strumming at the beginning complements his angelic voice as he starts singing.

Like most country songs, Chris impresses his listeners with his low voice that would later on get higher as he belts out the chorus.

The song continues on with an upbeat anthem but as you listen to the lyrics, you come to a realization of what the song means.

The New Distanced Couples Anthem

Many other reviews have mentioned how Chris Ruediger’s new single “When You Don’t” is the next long-distance relationship anthem under country music. Some even compare him to the earlier eras of Taylor Swift.

Chris has confessed during interviews that most of his songs were written from personal experiences. This leaves us wondering if this new single of his has something to do with the young artist’s love life.

“When You Don’t,” is written by Chris so simple and so easily understood. There is no need for metaphors. He expressed his feelings through the lyrics directly. His muse in writing the song is definitely a flight attendant, there is no argument with that—which leaves his fans clueless as to whether he has been looked to one in real life before.

But whether or not his inspiration for this new single of his did come from real life, one can infer the feelings being relayed are definitely on point. It is hard to be away with your significant others for a long time, especially when it is job-related. There is no assurance people will come back in the same way they left.

So kudos to Chris, for another relatable song to be added on our playlist! As an up and coming country music artist, he certainly did not disappoint, and we wish him more successes in the coming future.
